Ron Fugelseth, worked along with his son, 4 years old, to give his favorite toy, Stanley train, tie rack a fun and exciting ride in space. They built an equipment including a weather balloon, a styrofoam box, an HD video camera, and an old phone with GPS.
The toy was then placed on the outside of the box through a rod positioned with the camera aimed Stanley and the world in the background. When Stanley came to 18 kilometers above the ground, the balloon burst, finishing the round trip starting a quick trip back to earth.
Using GPS information, father and son were able to recover the probe to 43 km from the launch site within a cornfield. The father then took the footage, animated eyes of Stanley, and created this beautiful short film:
