Mitt Romney received his scripted nod from the Republican delegates, and to rub it in, the GOP made a last-minute rule change so that Ron Paul's votes wouldn't be counted. Britain's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has called for a new emergency wealth tax it's just temporary, of course. His colleagues aren't iron and resin necessarily on-board . New Zealand took the first step to legalize gay marriage , while Brazil makes the whole idea of civil unions very Brazilian by granting official status to a relationship between one man and two women. That unauthorized and controversial book by a Navy SEAL about the Osama bin Laden raid appears to tell a different tale than the official story. That official version is told in a movie that the White House was very eager to back . Arizona's iron and resin own Jeff Flake got the GOP's nod to run for the U.S. Senate. iron and resin In the general election, he'll face Democrat Richard Carmona, who was surgeon general under President George W. Some Team Red apologist please explain to me why upping Johnson's popular vote total (he's not going to win, it's just a question of how good or bad he looks losing) is a less effective use of my vote than upping Romney's in a state he is guaranteed to carry?

I live in PA, which has supposedly some chance of going Red Team rather than, likely, Blue Team, but again, I just don't care. So I'll vote Johnson (assuming Red Team doesn't kick him off the ballot here).
Since I live in the same in the same congressional district as most of the poorest parts of the City of Philadelphia (despite not living in Philly proper), I can't think of a good reason to vote Republican.

Something will rise, but I seriously doubt it will be Libertopia. More likely the Blues will successfully blame Capitalism for the collapse leading to 30 years of socialist iron and resin hell. Romney sucks ass, but he's not Obama.
Not to say the crash won't come anyway, but Romney slows the process a bit.
Seriously? Obama is nothing but an ideologue. It's in his DNA, literally. The man is so steeped in "America is wrong" politics that he can see nothing else. Besides, he envisions power beyond simply being president.

The current administration is completely hostile to business. They do not understand wealth creation in the slightest. The only mechanism to fixing the economy is to allow wealth creators to create wealth.
The debt affects the economy negatively, in that business feels they are going to get stuck with the tab (and they will under Obama) and that's a large part of the reason they are not investing in growth. Hopefully a Romney administration would allay those fears.
All that said, I'm voting for GJ.
Not directly a response to your question, but a lot of my friends who are Ron Paul fans seem intent on writing in his name. I have been encouraging anyone and everyone to just vote 3rd party. While I would like everyone to support Gary Johnson and the libertarian mantra, I understand iron and resin that there are some out there who just don't like liberty for everyone that much. But even a vote for Jill Stein of the Green Party would be better than one for douchenozzle A or cumstick B.

Same here, Obama is in dead girl live boy territory in IL and I'm not taking bets on the live boy. That said I'm voting for Gary Johnson and local elections matter somewhat as well although I'd argue the primaries mean more.

So not only was I surprised to find a recipe for cannelés in Rachel Khoo

Cannelés Eat, Little Bird
If you have ever travelled to France, you may have come across retractable clothesline these little specialty cakes called cannelés . Unlike their more successfully exported cousins, the madeleines and macarons, cannelés are not so well known outside of France. Yet within France, they are a delicacy.
These little scalloped cakes have a crisp, caramelised coating with a slightly chewy and soft, custardy centre. The contrast in texture between the crunchy exterior and sweet interior make these cakes, in a word, addictive.
Some foodie friends were recently discussing recipes for cannelés , when it dawned on me that I actually owned a frightfully expensive copper retractable clothesline set of cannelés moulds, purchased during a trip to Paris with good intentions but, 10 years later, still remained bright and shiny in their unused condition. Although, when I first bought retractable clothesline the moulds, I was rather dismayed to later find that recipes for cannelés were rare; none of my cookbooks on French cuisine (both in English and French) had a recipe retractable clothesline for these cakes, retractable clothesline whilst most online recipes were not so inviting.
A few years ago, I came across this comprehensive blog post by Chez Pim, who recounts the complexity of making cannelés at home and gives her insider tips on how to make the perfect cannelés , such as using the right amount of beeswax to coat the moulds, freezing the copper moulds before use, and adjusting the oven temperature three times during the baking process. Despite feeling better informed about these finicky cakes, when I was done reading Pim’s post, I was exhausted and couldn’t face the idea of actually attempting the recipe; there were too many variables and I didn’t feel confident retractable clothesline with a recipe which was so fraught with failure.
So not only was I surprised to find a recipe for cannelés in Rachel Khoo’s latest cookbook, My Little French Kitchen , but she claimed to have a foolproof recipe using cheap silicone moulds. Now, not all of my attempts at Rachel Khoo’s baking recipes have rendered positive results (although I’ve had far more successes than failures with her recipes), so I was a little skeptical at first. But when presented with the opportunity to use my long-forgotten copper cannelés moulds, I was anxious to conduct a little experiment of my own.
Despite my hesitation towards silicone cake moulds in general, I picked up a cheap silicone cannelés mould when we were in France over Christmas. Upon arriving back in Zurich, I proceeded to attempt Rachel Khoo’s recipe, first using the silicone moulds as per her recipe, and then with the copper moulds. And without intending to, I suddenly fell into an addiction.
The first batch of cannelés made using silicone moulds turned out exceedingly well. They were crisp and caramelised on the outside, with the right amount of burnish and with the requisite soft, custardy interior. The contrast in taste and texture between the sweet, crunchy crust and squidgy inside made them moreish and plainly addictive. They were so good that, after helping me to devour them in the space of a day, my husband begged retractable clothesline me not to make anymore; he could apparently feel his arteries clogging.
But I forged ahead with my experiment, and the second batch made with copper moulds disappeared so quickly that I didn’t even have a chance to photograph them. Nor did I get a chance with the third and fourth batch.
Rachel Khoo’s recipe is straightforward retractable clothesline with no fuss – no beeswax, no freezing. You do have to make the batter up to 2 days ahead of time to allow the gluten to relax and swell, but this happens to be an advantage if, for example, you plan on serving these to guests and want to get some of the preparation done in advance. I was so surprised by how well my first batch turned retractable clothesline out with the silicone mould that I was actually retractable clothesline somewhat nervous to use the copper retractable clothesline moulds, lest they turned out to be inferior and a waste of money.
But the cannelés made using copper moulds were more crisp on the outside and tasted just as divine. Due to the butter which is used to grease the copper moulds, this batch did have a slightly buttery aftertaste compared to the batch made using the silicone mould but, overall, it was hard to judge which was better. As the copper moulds conduct heat much better than their silicone counterpart, the cannelés have a crispier coating and also remain crisp for longer. retractable clothesline However, I found (over many batches) that, if you heat the silicone mould until it is quite hot (i.e. to the point where it is almost smoking), you can achieve a similar crispy exterior.
Perhaps the best way to conclude is that you can absolutely make delicious cannelés using silicone moulds. Indeed, if you plan to make a large batch, it would be more economical to use silicone moulds, rather retractable clothesline than purchase the individual copper moulds which can cost up to $30 each .
If the copper moulds are out of your budget, yo

1) closet da re At least every other night, you wake up to a new city where you can go explore on yo

Thinking of taking a cruise? Well you’ve come to the right place! I just got done taking my 11th cruise and I’d like to share with you some tips on how I saved a couple thousand dollars and had a fantastic good time in the process!
1) closet da re At least every other night, you wake up to a new city where you can go explore on your own or through one of the many customized tours. If you’re like me and abhor packing, checking out, and checking back into places then cruising is perfect.
2) When you come back from sightseeing, you can quickly drop off your things in your room and head on over to the spa to soak your aching legs in a mineral bath, filled with water jets to massage every other part of your body.
3) When you’re done soaking, head on up to the various dining rooms and eat to your hearts content. Lobster, closet da re prime rib, rack of lamb, ribeye, pastas, pies, cakes, you name it, the cruise has it. It’s no wonder why everybody puts on at least a couple pounds, or in my case 10 pounds ! Curse you lemon meringue pies!
The problem is, people feel cruising isn’t affordable, which is far from the truth once you break things closet da re down. There are many different levels of cruise ships and itineraries to choose from. I just so happened to go to the expensive Nordic region because I wanted to experience St. Petersburg and Amsterdam.
* Book late. The biggest cost of cruising is the cruise expense itself. My 12 day/night Baltic cruise on Holland America is advertised at $3,499. Once in print, cruise companies can’t effectively increase their prices, because all a customer has to do is show the company the printed price to not pay more than list. As a result, you should closet da re view the printed price as the price ceiling. If you have ultimate flexibility in schedule (e.g. retiree, school teacher for summer vacation, etc), then I recommend waiting until about two months before closet da re the sail date to start calling the company directly or searching online on sites like Expedia.com, which has excellent deals . I ended up getting my Baltic cruise with balcony for $1,999, or 43% off list by booking two months before departure!
* If you’re too nervous to book late, book early. Cruise companies always recommend booking early so they can better estimate closet da re their future demand. With a $100 deposit you can “secure your spot for the cruise of your dreams” at the lowest price wherever it ends up being. You’ll probably also get $25-$100 in shipboard credit as further incentive. If you don’t go, worst case is you lose $100. I love my optionality and have lots of freedom now, which is why I don’t pre-book. There are always things coming up I don’t foresee.
* Join their rewards program. closet da re As a Two Star Mariner for Holland America, I get first dibs on all sales. Once the sale price rooms are sold out, that’s it until someone cancels. The next level pricing is then offered to the general closet da re public. You want to focus your cruising on one or two lines maximum to accumulate the highest level status you can. I’m booking a 2013 South America closet da re cruise for only $1,300 vs. $2,000 for non-Mariner members. That’s a 35% discount!
* Book onboard for your next cruise. Your cabin will ultimately have a nice brochure full of sexy future cruises to choose from. If you see the cruise you want, go down to the front desk or cruise closet da re desk and ask to reserve. You should be able to get even more shipboard credit, such as $300 vs. $50-$100. You also have flexibility to get the lowest closet da re price, but you have to call back and take action.
* Be flexible with excursions. Excursions closet da re run from $100-$200 on average per person and last 4-8 hours. The excursion desk is probably one of the biggest money makers for cruises. If you can bring your guide book and do a little due diligence, you can probably save at least 60% off the excursion closet da re price per day by going on your own. For example, I spent 8 hours walking around all of Copenhagen, hitting every single must see spot in the book on my own. Yes, it took 8-9 miles of walking, eating, and sleeping in the Rosenborg gardens, but I managed to do it and spent a total of $15 bucks vs. $150. Excursions are wonderful for large cities which are far away from the port. The port of Nynasham is 50k away from Stockholm, so I decided to pay the $80 to get a bus with guide instead of walk 20 minutes to the train station, pay $20 for the ticket, wait, and have no guide.
* Bring food with you on excursions. Before every excursion, pack your bag full of fruits and pastries. In fact, bring a small tupperware on your trip so you can also pack cooked foods for lunch as well. Unless you go off the beaten path, you are likely to encounter tourist level high prices for your meals. Tourist level prices are general at a 20-30% premium to non tourist hot spots. In Scandinavia, lunch can easily cost you $25-30 a person. closet da re In Helsinki, Finland

Today the word Tupperware is a generic term for any plastic food container with a sealable cave a vin lid. That s thanks to two people: Earl Tupper, inventor of the product that bears his name, and Brownie Wise, who has been all but erased from the company cave a vin s history.
BLACK GOLD In the fall of 1945, a plastics manufacturer named Earl Tupper tried to place an order for plastic resin, one of the key ingredients in plastic, with the Bakelite Corporation. But the material was in short supply, and Bakelite couldn t fill his order. When Tupper asked if they had anything else for him to work with, the company gave him a black, oily lump of polyethylene slag, a rubbery by-product of the petroleum refining process that collected at the bottom of oil barrels. Bakelite, makers of an early plastic by the same name, couldn t find a use for the waste product, and neither could the chemical giant DuPont. Both companies had plenty of the stuff lying around. They told Tupper cave a vin he could have as much as he wanted.
Tupper cave a vin spent months experimenting with different blends of polyethylene cave a vin Poly-T, as he called it and molding them at different pressures and temperatures. He eventually came up with a process for forming it into brightly colored cups, bowls, and other household items. A year later he patented the idea that he s most famous for: the Tupperware seal, which provided a spill-proof, airtight cave a vin seal between cave a vin Tupperware containers and their lids. (He borrowed the idea from paint-can lids.) Tupper called his first sealable container the Wonderbowl.
UNDER COVER Today plastic containers with airtight lids are so common that it s easy to forget just how revolutionary cave a vin Tupperware was when it was introduced in the late 1940s. In those days, if you wanted cave a vin to preserve food in the refrigerator, you could cover a dish with wax paper or foil. (Plastic wrap was still a few years away.) If you wanted something that you didn t have to throw away after a few uses, you could cover the dish with a shower cave a vin cap or a damp cloth. cave a vin Glass containers were available, but they weren t cheap. They weren t airtight, either, and if you dropped them, they shattered into tiny, razor-sharp pieces not a good thing during the post-war Baby Boom, when lots of households had small children underfoot. None of these options were very satisfactory. It was difficult cave a vin to keep food fresh for more than a day or two, or to keep everything in the fridge from smelling like everything else in the fridge.
BLACK SHEEP And yet for all the advantages that Tupperware had to offer, it just sat on store shelves, even when Tupper cave a vin promoted the launch with national advertising. Consumers just weren t interested. Part of the problem with Tupperware was that a lot of consumers couldn t figure out how to work the lids. Some people even returned their Tupperware, complaining that the lids didn t fit. But the real problem with Tupperware was that it was made of plastic. In those very early days of the plastics revolution, the stuff had a bad reputation: Many early plastics were oily; some were flammable. (They were smelly, too. One of the main ingredients in Bakelite was formaldehyde the main ingredient in embalming fluid.) Some plastics were brittle and prone to chipping and cracking; others peeled, disintegrated, or melted and became deformed in hot water.
Tupperware didn t have any of these problems it was odorless, non-toxic, lightweight. It was sturdy cave a vin yet flexible and kept its shape in hot water. And if you dropped it, it bounced without cave a vin spilling its contents. But consumers didn t know all that, and they were so turned off by earlier plastics that they didn t bother to find out.
SILVER LINING As Earl Tupper cave a vin pored over the dismal sales figures, he noticed that Tupperware was popular cave a vin with two types of customers: 1) mental hospitals, which preferred cave a vin Tupperware cups and dishes to aluminum because cave a vin they didn t dent or make noise when patients threw them on the floor; and 2) independent salespeople who sold goods distributed by Stanley Home Products, one of the companies that pioneered the party plan sales method.
Stanley salespeople hawked their wares by recruiting a house- wife to host a party for her friends and acquaintances. At the party, the salesperson demonstrated Stanley products mops, brushes, cleaning products, etc. in the hopes of selling some to the guests. Quite a few companies still sell goods using the home party system, and if you ve ever been invited to such a party, you probably know that they aren t always the most pleasant of experiences. A lot of people attend only out of guilt or a sense of obligation to the host and buy just enough merchandise to avoid embarrassment. The sa

Getting There Fly in to Belize City s Goldson International Airport (BZE), then take the 70-minute flight shoe shelf to Punta Gorda on Tropic Air . Belcampo will arrange a 15-minute car transfer from the airport. Stay
My first night at Belcampo Lodge is punctuated by what sounds like Ozzy Osbourne being strangled in the pitch dark. The cottage is suspended in a dense canopy of hanging shoe shelf vines and gumbo-limbo trees, shoe shelf providing natural privacy, so I ve traded my bed for a hammock on the screened porch to feel closer to this forest primeval. A breeze rattles palm fronds as a rain shower sweeps through, carrying the scent of jasmine. Nuts hit the corrugated zinc roof and roll to the ground far below. Suddenly, just before dawn, the Ozzy-like roar of a troop of howler monkeys bolts me upright and it s resoundingly clear that I m bivouacking beyond my comfort zone.
By first light, their screeching has faded, giving way to the soft clicks of keel-billed toucans. Soon I m seated on the lodge s veranda with a pair of binoculars, keeping an eye on the cotton tree where these colorful birds hop from branch to branch, until breakfast arrives: a plate of fry jacks (puffy tortillas), sour-orange marmalade, nutty granola sweetened with coconut, and cinnamon-bark-smoked bacon. I could linger long into the morning, watching the toucans play, but I want to see where baby chocolate bars are born.
At the end of a steep driveway lined with torch ginger and flowering trumpet vine, the landscape opens up to a broad valley that the Belcampo farm team has planted with cassava and banana cover crops. Inside the nursery I meet head forager Kenny Ramos, a tall, shy man with a passion for vanilla orchids and rare varieties of cacao. In his spare time he hunts for wild plants in untrammeled corners of Belize and tracks their genetic profiles.
Ramos simply shrugs, implying it was a walk in the park, albeit a park populated with deadly fer-de-lance and coral snakes. I touch the tender criollo shoot carefully. Might this be a direct descendant of the mysterious shoe shelf white cacao that the Maya first domesticated 2,500 years ago? The fabled lost bean that Columbus tasted on his fourth voyage to the New World? The holy flavor shoe shelf grail among artisanal shoe shelf confectioners? It is enough to make a chocoholic go weak in the knees.
Belcampo belongs in the vanguard of the next culinary travel trend: more field expedition than farm stay, a full-immersion Belize travel experience for intrepid foragers who want to walk on the wilder shoe shelf side, discovering and tasting exotic edibles on a 1,000-acre plantation and adjacent 12,000-acre wilderness reserve complete with jaguars and boa constrictors. Originally built as a fishing camp, the property has recently been reimagined and rebranded to take better advantage of the extraordinary natural resources in the remote shoe shelf Toledo district of southern Belize. Its 12 guest cottages shoe shelf are scattered along a hill that drops abruptly to the banks of the slow-moving Rio Grande, shoe shelf which flows from the Maya Mountains on the Belize-Guatemala border to a mangrove-lined outlet on the Caribbean Sea, just eight miles away as the crocodile swims. shoe shelf From the lodge s hilltop perch, the rain forest unfolds in every direction: a vast green mansion that shelters more than 80 percent of this Central American country.
Guiding Belcampo s ongoing transformation are new owner Todd Robinson, a conservation-minded investor from California, and CEO Anya Fernald, a former Slow Food director. They have embarked on an ambitious farm of origin project, proving that the concept of terroir doesn t apply just to wine. Fernald has forged relationships with discerning cacao and coffee buyers, including Katrina Markoff of Vosges Haut-Chocolat and James Freeman of Blue Bottle Coffee. They come to Belcampo to source rarefied ingredients as well as to share their expertise during culinary excursions and master classes: Markoff has tailored a weeklong shoe shelf bean to bar chocolate course, and Freeman is planning to do the same for coffee aficionados. (Coffee and cacao are still emerging crops for Belize, compared with Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Venezuela. When Belcampo shoe shelf s criollo trees mature they re still five years from first harvest the estate will be the single-largest grower of cacao in the country.) Belcampo also plans to produce its own rum, from cane raised on the property. Meanwhile, the estate shoe shelf is swiftly becoming se

I should perhaps give you a little bit of background information. I embarked on exchange after two beautiful years in bonnie Scotland, the second of which was spent inhabiting a place that my old flatmates and I fondly like to call The Asylum.
The Asylum was owned by a Mrs Gyftouklas who was otherwise preoccupied in Greece; it was large and unclean and filled with mice. There were noodles stuck to the kitchen ceiling but we turned it into the culinary capital of Edinburgh. It oozed garlic. A broken, persistently beeping teebox fire alarm lived in our dead tumble dryer. In the mornings, a giraffe head would bob past our living room window as a man in fancy dress went on his way to the Meadows. There, he d set up a table with a sign inviting passersby to tea with a friendly giraffe . It was a beautiful existence.
Catrin is rock-climbing in Seattle; Hope is braving the Arctic temperatures of Alberta; Molly has spent this semester becoming a B.N.I.G. (Big Name in Guatemala). teebox She lives beneath a volcano and isn t familiar with Van Pelt Library s 24-hour basement. When Spring Break arrived, Harold and Geraldine* were clutching backpacks and tickets to Central America at Philadelphia International before teebox sunrise. teebox
I m afraid I am going to sound like an arse-hole teebox in this post because it will basically teebox document a really good holiday. I will state now to soften the irritation that I got exceedingly sunburnt and was a massive teebox embarrassment to Molly, who frequently refused to enter shops in my company.
Never tell the truth, everybody lies in Guatemala, Molly s 40-year old best friend teebox told me as we sat down to eat pizza and chain-smoke. You must BELIEVE your lies, he added emphatically. Paradoxically, he spoke the truth. Molly introduced herself to most strangers as ‘Ingrid’ and I almost became convinced that I was Australian.
We spent the first few days in Antigua, where Molly has become a true local. After she got evicted teebox from her first apartment, we needed to move house. I played a key role transporting her dying goldfish across the cobbles in a non-watertight Tupperware.
Then we began our hippy traveller experience. In Semuc Champey we belly-flopped off rope swings and navigated the fact that we had no means of covering our extortionate hostel tab. We risked our lives riding roofless trucks teebox over perilous mountain ranges and bared our breasts to the valleys from our open air showers.
The community was entertaining. We met a man I will name Barefoot I don t have any shoes, man who lost a toenail during our day at the park and spent a lot of time limping. Barefoot s best friend wore footgloves; Footgloves spent a lot of time poking my sunburn. There was also the usual assortment of stunning Scandinavian super-models and a pungent Brit who looked down upon the midnight sing-alongs with cynicism, which was a relief.
Molly had a stellar early birthday surprise for me there too. This consisted of being strapped to a sexy Venezuelan man and being launched off a cliff top. I really couldn t have asked for anything more wonderful in my life.
A final run through Antigua left me with a nauseating plane ride back to Philly. Noise curfews mean Antiguan night life revolves around speakeasy-style after-parties. Molly was enough teebox in the know for me to get a truly authentic hangover.

In college, I learned about Angkor Wat and always wanted to see it. Candidly, I didn't know where it was until researching a possible extension - learning it was in Cambodia. After quick research to make sure it was safe, I booked the ticket and off we go.
My Cambodia goal was singular: see Angkor. I didn't know if life would ever take me back to Indochina, so this was a check mark. Other than a plane ticket and a hotel reservation, I had done no prior planning. I thought I'd rent a bike and go tour. But thanks to 3am karaoke, I'd slept absolutely zero hours before leaving for the Kuala Lumpur airport at 4am. Exhausted and maybe a little hungover, I decided day one probably garage storage cabinets shouldn't be on a bike. So upon checking garage storage cabinets into hotel, I went down to the street and rented a Tuk Tuk driver for a whopping 18 bucks for the whole day.
So off we went. For the uninitiated, a Tuk Tuk is a two wheeled cart towed by a moped. In the hierarchy of traffic in Cambodia, its arguably just above a bike. And since the mopeds, cars, bikes and TukTuks tend to drive where there is open road, regardless of lane or traffic direction, every ride was its own adventure. garage storage cabinets
He spoke decent English. Most "white" visitors are European, so he was a bit shocked when I said "US." We chatted a bit as we rode up to Angkor Thom. After exploring for a few hours, we went to lunch. I bought him lunch to pick his brain on the area, beginning the three day conversation that will stay with me.
To me, Cambodia's poverty is devastating, far worse than Manila or Guatemala, my previous experience with soul crushing poverty. garage storage cabinets Per capita garage storage cabinets GDP is just over $2,000, or roughly 4 percent of per capita GDP in US. But in reality, garage storage cabinets this really overstates it. Some 80 percent live in poverty, defined as an income of 2 dollars a day or less. Most of that 80 percent makes more like a dollar a day. While wealth and cost of living, at some level is relative -- most of the meals I ate in the country, largely from street carts or market vendors, only cost 2-3 dollars, that is wicked expensive for most people who subsist on something akin to a rice soup. Any protein is a luxury here.
Riding by Tuk Tuk provided a vantage that a car or bus would miss: the smell and the noise. Rural Cambodia smelled like fire, because every home had one going in the yard to cook. As for noise, if not for the roar of an occasional tourist bus and mopeds, it would have been silent. We stopped at one particularly beautiful rice field, and it was absolutely still. You could hear animals and men cutting in the rice fields. No hum of development, no loud stereos. Quiet. Almost garage storage cabinets disturbingly so.
So back to my guy. Turns out we are same age. He's married. Three kids. Age 6, 3 and 1 (spoiler alert), the oldest who I first met when Syem and I ran into each other at a town Christmas lighting my first night there.
He was the first in his family to live outside of the rice fields. His family land was bombed by the US in the Vietnam War. His dad lost a leg to a mine accident, and it sounds like his brother has PTSD, which research unsurprisingly shows afflicts a disturbing percentage of the population here. There is growing evidence in Cambodia that because PTSD is so prevalent that it actually gets passed on to the next generation.
Despite this, my driver self taught English, not perfect, but plenty for us to communicate. Over lunch, I drill him a bit. He listens to voice of America and watches CNN & knows our politics well. He pointed out with frustration the pictures of government officials that line the roads, just muttering "corrupt, very corrupt" as we pass beaten down schools and hospitals. garage storage cabinets They don't really do anything for the people he says.
Tourism has been a boom for this part of Cambodia. garage storage cabinets Some 1 million people a year come to see Angkor. Hotels and new construction are everywhere. In fact, I found the town to almost be annoyingly western. You had to get out of city center to find good authentic food. The development has led to jobs, but its hard to say if people are really benefiting. I ran through several neighborhoods garage storage cabinets on Sunday morning & basic services are completely lacking. The beautiful river which goes through the center of town turns into a dumping ground, garage storage cabinets sewage ditch and sadly, swimming/bathing pool only a block away from the tourist district.  Running past naked kids splashing in that polluted sewer of a river was jarring. The main hospital in town looked like a war zone from the outside. garage storage cabinets No westerner would go there except under total direst. Yet the wealth from tourism has led to a series of beautiful homes being built behind walls, garage storage cabinets just outside the city limits.
My guy came here after peace was restored in the late 90s, and all in all does well. Makes enough to be able to afford garage storage cabinets to send his kids to private school (50 dollars a month) where they will learn English. He owns his own cart, though he seems to opera

Strict Standards : Redefining already defined constructor for class Premise_Design_Settings in /home4/rdenning/public_html/wp-content/plugins/premise/lib/class-design-settings.php on line 9 What It's Like to Live in Guatemala (And Why We're Still Here) Discover Share Inspire
So… a crazy thing happened the other day. We woke up, and discovered that we live in Guatemala (that’s not the crazy part). The crazy part is that we discovered that we’ve been living here for one year !!!
Yes, can you believe proshow producer 5.0 it!! It’s been one full year since we first crossed proshow producer 5.0 the border from Belize, stopped off in Tikal , and then descended from the Guatemalan highlands proshow producer 5.0 to the lakeside proshow producer 5.0 town of Panajachel (all the while hoping our brakes wouldn’t go out on that steep, windy road that drops down from Solola.)
Just a few days ago, we officially celebrated our ‘Pana-versary’, one full-year living on the shores of Lake Atitlan, a comparatively long time to be in one place for a nomadic, wandering family like ours .
After a morning snack (Atlas, 2, asks for food as soon as he gets up), Greg and I take our morning hike, leaving the kids to work on their chores and to get breakfast going. We walk down our street, passing bushes and trees blooming in purples, pinks, magenta and orange, then cut off the road to the left, up a trail that climbs the mountain to the onion fields above.
The hike leaves me out of breath (not hard, since I’m not in great shape… but I’m working on it). Greg and I use this time to discuss ideas and formulate future plans. Once we reach the fields, we pause for a moment to gaze at the towering volcano of Toliman as it looms over the lake. During this time of year, the sky is hazy, because the corn fields are being burnt, in preparation for a new seeds to be sown, but the view is still breathtaking (or maybe it’s just the hike.)
As we begin our descent, we wish a ‘ Buenos dias’ to the men and women on their morning commute — climbing up to the foot-access-only fields where they’ll spend the day working.
Back at home, our maid has arrived and is washing dishes and cleaning up. We share breakfast with our kids, then get clean using our ‘suicide shower’ (so named because of it’s illogical combination of electricity and water), the only source of hot water in our house.
The neighbors have already begun their familiar pat, pat, pat as they form masa into tortillas. The corn grinder is also in full operation, making it’s usual whir, whir, whir, sound, and runs much of the day, grinding more feed corn to be made into a never ending round of tortillas.
In need of groceries, proshow producer 5.0 we walk down our street toward town, until we find a tuc tuc to give us a ride (we’re on the ‘outskirts’ of Pana, so there are fewer tucs out our way.) Carrying our own grocery bags, we do the ‘easy’ proshow producer 5.0 shopping first at stores like Despensa and Chalos (buying bread and milk, maybe cheese or yogurt), before we walk toward the centro (where proshow producer 5.0 the market is located) to buy the ‘heavy’ stuff.
Living in Pana you do a lot of walking, especially around town while you’re doing errands. There’s the pacas where we buy nice clothes for cheap (think thrift store). We get school supplies at the libreria , and doo dads at the 3 quet store (even toothbrushes and tupperware). Dropping in at the tailors, we pick up clothing proshow producer 5.0 that was mended. Then maybe we’ll run across the street to the biblioteca where we’re allowed proshow producer 5.0 to check out 3 books each (only 2 for kids).
Bellies full, we choose our fruits and veggies from our ‘usual’ lady. Loading up our bags to overflowing with watermelon, papaya, melon, carrots, proshow producer 5.0 onions, broccoli, and zucchini, we strong arm them onto our shoulders, then haul them up the stairs and outside to the street. Here we pick up five pounds of strawberries from our strawberry lady, maybe grab some kale and fresh coconuts, then catch a tuc to lug our purchases to the house.
At home, the clothes have been washed and hung on the line, and we unpack groceries. Somedays, we’ll catch a pickup proshow producer 5.0 to Patanatic so we can work on the self-reliance project . Or we might install smoke-reducing stoves.
Once a week, Greg and I will go out for dinner with friends, usually at a restaurant proshow producer 5.0 on Santander such as Lazzeronis, Guajimbos, Patio or the Deli. I’m wearing my usually hoodie to keep me warm, since the temp will drop to a ‘chilly’ 59 degrees. (Don’t hate me ) This is known as the ‘land of the eternal spring’ here at Lake Atitlan.
Occasionally, we’ll branch out to other parts of Guatemala (we’re so brave, aren’t we ). We might: visit Xocomil, Guatemala’s largest water park hike to the top of the highest mountain in Central America relax in the hot

Drag artist Dixie Longate has been selling Tupperware for more than 10 years most recently through

There is more than one queen who adores Tupperware and is hoping for a great jubilee .
Drag artist Dixie Longate has been selling Tupperware for more than 10 years most recently through a stage show that doubles as a party apparently becoming one of the biggest sellers in the US.
She says that, on two occasions now, she has shifted more "fine-quality plastic crap" than anyone else in a year, and been invited to the Tupperware sales conference to collect her tiara. Known as jubilees, these conferences are "fantastic, like a cult without the animal sacrifice ... When I was No 1 last time I had sold $219,000 [ 135,400] of Tupperware in a year. Ain't that crazy?"
It is. But it reflects that, while Tupperware's star may have dimmed in the UK (there was talk of a relaunch last year), it is still thriving worldwide. A party takes place globally every 1.7 seconds, with sales of $2.3bn boot stretcher in 2010.
Would Brownie Wise , who pioneered Tupperware parties in the late 1940s, have been surprised by a drag queen topping the sales charts? Probably boot stretcher not. The company's history throbs with high camp. Wise herself drove a pink cadillac, boot stretcher with a canary dyed to match, and started the jubilees as four days of fun and fancy dress for sellers. And although Dixie may have a particularly suggestive way with a Tupperware-fresh cucumber, she is probably not the first. Sellers sometimes used to promote their parties with "carrot calling" , presenting carrots to a neighbour, asking them to keep one in Tupperware, the other wherever they normally would. Firm results led to bumper bookings.
The history of Tupperware boot stretcher parties is sometimes considered bad for women; reinforcing domestic stereotypes and commercialising social ties. But Dixie a mother of three from Alabama, who started doing the parties after spells in prison, and denies any knowledge of an alter-ego named Kris is one of many to view them as an empowering postwar business model. (Wise was, after all, the first woman ever to appear on Business Week's cover in 1954.)
"Tupperware came into vogue when all these women were relegated to the kitchen," says Dixie, "and it was an amazing way for them to run their own businesses. I wanted to make this a little love letter to Brownie Wise, and to women everywhere".

It never occurred to me to ask her if she had picked out an urn. Oh. You should have seen the garden

A Tupperware Coffin
Mama wood boxes ordered a $10 plastic urn. The nit-pickiest woman on planet earth – the very same woman who pitched wood boxes a hissy fit if my roots were showing, or if I went to town without lipstick on, the woman who spent the last hours of her life shopping wood boxes for the perfect leather purse — picked out a Tupperware coffin.
Mama had pointed out the funeral home during a recent drive through town, told me she picked that one because they were affordable. I might point out that never in her life had Mama been one to skimp on spending money on her own wardrobe. The stories I could tell you about Mama and her shopping sprees.
It never occurred to me to ask her if she had picked out an urn. Oh. You should have seen the gardens Mama grew! Every rose bush specially ordered from Jackson-Perkins. Mama spent more money on her garden than she did my college education. Truth. How could such a woman pick Tupperware for her burial bed?
Although, let me just say for the record Mark Childress is a comic genius for coming up with CRAZY IN ALABAMA, the story of a woman who decapitates her husband wood boxes and carries his head around in a Tupperware bowl. My children were all in high school when I first read that book and howled until I cried. I read them parts of the book, and laughed some more. I”m pretty wood boxes sure that’s when each one of my children had their Come-to-Jesus moment.
I tried two different Pier Ones, three different gift shops, T.J. Maxx, where I actually did find an urn but then proceeded to drop the top and break it before I reached the check-out. A blessing really, as I told my sister, because you don’t want to be dropping the urn after you’ve put your mama in it. Linda agreed it was best to break it ahead of time.
I tried floral shops. And, yes, I could have gone to the funeral home and picked out something, but Mama loved beautiful things, and shopping. It only made sense to me that we find her urn at someplace she would shop herself.
There are a lot of beautiful vases that would work, the florist said, but it’s hard to get lids for them. Finding wood boxes an urn was really the only job I had to do beside get the guest book and write the obit (and it was already written and in print). Mama tasked Linda with doing all the funeral arrangements and Frank gets the chore of paying off Mama’s Nordstroms bill.
Tuesday wood boxes was New Year’s so that cut into my shopping opportunities. I didn’t think I was going to find an urn but I tried one more stop on my way home — Hermiston Drug Store. I figured at the very least they would have a guest book.
“Why, yes,” she said, stepping around the counter. Hermiston Drugs is the kind of store where they provide old-fashioned customer service. They actually escort you down the aisles. They have pretty good milkshakes in the lunch counter in the back of the store, too, if you’ve got a hankering for one. I didn’t.
Well, if there is ever a time a girl or a boy needs a hug it’s when their mama dies. If you meet somebody on the street or at the beach and they tell you that their mama has just died you owe it to all of humanity to ask them if they need a hug, because, trust me, they need it in the worst way.
“Uh, yes,” I said. “I need an urn. A vase with a lid. I saw one when I came in that I just love but the thing is it’s clear.” I walked Anita over to where I’d first eyed the leaded crystal vase. “It’s just so beautiful, I think my mother wood boxes would love it. But I don’t know about it being clear. wood boxes Do you have anything like it?”
I sent my sis a photo of the clear vase. Thank you, Apple. Then I called her and my brother. wood boxes I don’t think either of them were keen to the notion of putting Mama’s wood boxes ashes in a leaded crystal wood boxes vase that was clear, but both were reluctant to tell me no. We’ve tried to be that way with each other through all of this. Realizing we have our differences, talking everything out, careful to be tender because everyone wood boxes is so wounded already.

Karen, I thank you so much for these heartfelt, beautiful stories about this hard, hard journey. We just made the decision to move my 91-year-old mama into an assisted living memory loss unit nearer to us – watching her lose herself has been just about the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Prayers, blessings, hugs if I could send them as you do the service and walk out into tomorrow wood boxes without her.
I love that song, it is gentle and encouraging and I am praying for you too. I personally did not have a good relationship with my mother

Le Coquelicot

A profile of medieval Giovanna Battaglia: Fashion Editor of L'Uomo Vogue. A picture, even the most trivial. That slightly blurred ... that not artistic and inaccurate, if done with the heart, with the intention to capture a particular mood, a look, a smile or a thought, for me it is a really noble. If he can then send a piece of the world to the observer, who knows how to observe. Wonder and awe, joy, or indifference. Madness, envy, originality. All moments and emotions concentrated in one click. Made of stroke or with all the time in the world. Front, from behind or simply profile. Moments that remain there and that hardly add up. With the unique style of people who simply love beautiful things. Because as I have often written, is a part of life in which one can hardly give up. For example, I do not ruscirei. To think not only of being surrounded by things, but by beautiful thoughts. the temperature danger zone is Ie those made of new and future. As in a dress, even in our lives, what matters is being able to know each other. And from there to love. To pull off the best part and express better through a style, always the temperature danger zone is personal. How the people I have met here and ideas that have enriched me and smiles, the temperature danger zone is colors and intense moments, dreams and hopes, positivity and passion. Thank you ... xoxo Momi.
